My research focus is on improving soil health and water quality in pasturelands of south Florida. With help from The Nature Conservancy, we are assessing if overseeding cover crops into pastures will capture excess nutrients and improve soil structure to prevent nutrient leaching and make pastures more productive. We are assessing the effectiveness of three seed mixes to see which overseeded crops grow best in our region.  I am passionate about the research done at Archbold Biological Station and Buck Island Ranch because of the tangible impact this work has on both the livelihoods of ranchers and the conservation of the unique ecology of south Florida.
