Exploring the Florida Scrub: Archbold’s Nature Trail
Archbold's self-guided Nature Trail consists of two short loops that can be walked separately or as one trail.
Discovery Loop
1/4 mile, 10-20 minute walk, sandy trail, easy difficulty level
The Discovery Loop is a quarter-mile trail on a sandy path near the Frances Archbold Hufty Learning Center. Interpretive panels will guide you through the scrub. This loop travels through a world built on sand dunes that are millions of years old, where much of life exists belowground, and where fires burn so regularly that trees rarely grow above your head.
Explorers Loop
2/3 miles, 30-45 minutes, sandy trail, moderate difficulty level
Although Archbold is a working facility, we welcome visitors. Options for guests include: touring the Frances Archbold Hufty Learning Center, a LEEF® Certified Platinum building; exploring nature’s laboratory on one of our short self-guided nature hikes; or learning about our historic buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
